Session One: Trauma in Children (October 27th from 11am-12:30pm CT)

Session one slides(PDF)

Homelessness, hunger, family violence, extreme poverty – all of these have an enormous impact on the physical and mental well being of children from infancy through adolescence. However, the indications of acute or post traumatic stress disorder can be easily overlooked or misdiagnosed in children and youth. How does trauma affect children? What does trauma informed care look like as we engage our youngest guests in crisis?

Session Two: Resiliency – Mitigating the Affects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (November 17th from 11am-12:30pm CT)

Session two slides(PDF)

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES) have received a lot of attention in the world of crisis services directed toward children. What are ACES and how do they impact families that are homeless? What coping skills can we instill in the children we serve to help foster resilience?

Session Three: Keeping Children Healthy in Community Living (December 15th from 11am – 12:30pm CT)

Session three slides(PDF)

As we head into flu season and continue to battle C-19, what are the best practices to discourage the spread of communicable disease in settings where children live or regularly congregate together. What physical and behavioral health issues do children in crisis often face? How can we support families as they work to prioritize the health of their children?
