Systems Alliance and Support (SAS): A Program of Intensive Case Management for Chronic Public Inebriates: Seattle

Authors: Cox GB, Meijer L, Carr DI, and Freng SA.

Abstract:
Systems Alliance and Support (SAS) is a long-term, intensive case management intervention suitable for severely disabled chronic alcoholics. These clients have long histories of alcohol abuse and of unsuccessful treatment for alcoholism, and for our subjects, long histories of homelessness, with a paucity of personal resources or reserves to assist in recovery. Given these characteristics, we expect these clients to move only very slowly and in small increments toward recovery, and to be prone to relapse. The goals of our intervention are to help stabilize the clients’ lives by assisting in basic support areas such as financial aid and housing, and subsequently to help them reduce or cease alcohol consumption. © 1993 by The Haworth Press, Inc.
