The TEAMKY waiver was approved on Jan. 1, 2025, runs through Dec. 31, 2029, and includes pre-procedure and post-hospitalization housing. The recuperative care pilot will reimburse 20 beds per eligible provider, for individuals 18 and older experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, who are Medicaid eligible, have a primary medical diagnosis, independently mobile and capable of performing basic ADLs, for up to 45 days of medical respite care at a time.
The waiver requires a detailed nursing assessment will be conducted within 24 hours by a licensed clinical professional, and the accompanying supports provided to the individuals staying in recuperative care aim to address medical and social vulnerabilities to enable recovery and facilitate a pathway to long-term stability.
Both short-term pre-procedure and short-term post-transition/hospitalization (medical respite) housing are subject to the CMS global cap of six months within a rolling 12-month period.
Note: The Kentucky state legislature did recently pass House Bill 695, instructing the State to submit a waiver application mandating community engagement requirements for ‘able bodied’ adults, without dependents, who are on Medicaid.
