Register Now – Learning Collaborative: Gender-Affirming Care in Medical Respite

Trans- and non-binary people experience homelessness at higher rates compared to their cisgender peers, and disproportionately experience unsheltered homelessness and associated adverse health outcomes. Medical Respite Programs play a uniquely important role in addressing this multi-faceted injustice, but often face barriers in their pursuit of gender-affirming services for both guests and staff, including pre-existing physical infrastructure, limited workforce development, outdated policies and procedures, and thin community partnerships.

Beginning September 2024, the National Institute for Medical Respite Care and the National Health Care for the Homeless Council will host a four (4) session online learning collaborative where participants will explore best practices for building a gender-affirming medical respite program. Participants will learn from experts in the field and collaborate with Medical Respite Programs across the country to identify areas of improvement and take tangible steps toward a more inclusive Medical Respite Community.

The Commitment: Participants are asked to attend all four sessions of the learning collaborative:

  1. Gender-Inclusive Congregate Care Fundamentals: September 18th, 1-2:30pm CT
  2. Policies, Procedures, and Documentation: October 16th 1-2:30pm CT
  3. Workforce Development: November 20th, 1-2:30pm CT
  4. Community Partnerships and Referrals: December 18th, 1-2:30pm CT

Multiple staff from a single organization are welcome to register.
