On May 5, 2015, US Department of Health & Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell came to Charlotte to announce an award that allows CCHC to be designated as a Federally Qualified Health Clinic (FQHC). FQHC status will also allow CCHC to begin serving low-income patients with health insurance.

In making the announcement at CCHC, Secretary Burwell said, “Health centers are keystones of the communities they serve. This award will enable more individuals and families to have access to the affordable, quality health care that health centers provide.”
