Last year 650,000 people found themselves unhoused in the United States (2023 HUD report to Congress) – the largest number of people recorded as experiencing homelessness on a single night since record keeping began. The lack of affordable housing and high-quality health care and services continue to underpin the homelessness crisis in America.
The National Health Care for the Homeless Council (NHCHC) remains dedicated to advancing our values that health care and housing are human rights by providing the very best training, research, and advocacy for those on the front line of the homelessness crisis.
Below are but a few of our 2024 fiscal year accomplishments:
- Engaged nearly 12,000 participants from health centers across the country with training and technical assistance.
- Launched the field test of the nation’s first-ever medical respite certification program.
- Engaged with emerging medical respite care providers to build capacity through our training and technical assistance, peer learning, and funding.
- Designed and led twelve multi-session peer-to-peer Learning Collaboratives, as well as eleven Listening Sessions on various topics.
- Informed government officials at HUD, CDC, USICH, and several state agencies through our policy and advocacy efforts.
Across all 50 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico, almost a million individuals were served at 4,455 health care for the homeless sites in 2023. With more people experiencing homelessness than ever before, NHCHC’s training, support and advocacy for homeless providers has never been more important than it is today.
We ask that you consider giving to this year’s fundraising campaign as we look ahead to the work we have before us in 2025 and beyond. Support from members of the NHCHC community are vital to our success and we are grateful for your support to help us build an equitable, high-quality health care system in the movement to end homelessness. Thank you for being a part of the NHCHC community!
Sincerely,
Bobby Watts, CEO
