Transitional-age youth (TAY), defined as individuals aged 18-24 years old, experiencing homelessness have distinct health care and housing needs compared to older adults and younger children. Meaningful engagement of transitional-age youth in services, consumer leadership, and health center governance is essential for developing programs that effectively address their unique needs.
While there is often high interest and the best of intentions to engage transitional-age youth in leadership and governance roles, consistently executing effective engagement can be challenging. To address this, the National Health Care for the Homeless Council will host a four-session online learning collaborative in the Spring of 2025. Through this collaborative, participants will explore best practices for initiating and advancing youth leadership initiatives within health centers that serve transitional-age youth experiencing homelessness. Participants will learn from field experts and each other, identify areas for improvement, and take concrete steps towards implementing sustainable, meaningful engagement of TAY in leadership and governance.
The objective of this project is to equip health centers with the knowledge and strategies necessary to foster consistent, impactful participation of TAY in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of programs and services designed to meet their distinct needs.
