Health Care for the Homeless
The New Orleans Health Department (NOHD) Health Care for the Homeless (HCH) program was established as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in 1988 to provide accessible and comprehensive care in the Greater New Orleans (GNO) area. HCH’s mission is to improve the overall health and wellbeing of our city’s homeless individuals, regardless of one’s inability to pay for services. The NOHD and HCH has a vision of building a healthy New Orleans through equitable social and environmental conditions and through policies, programs and partnerships that promote health. Our values were founded on the premise that all human beings have a right to access basic healthcare, which is guided by the principles that all patients are treated with respect, dignity, quality, cultural competence, and are empowered to take an active role in the healthcare they receive.
