Medical Respite Start Ups: Lessons Learned and Recommendations

Presented by the National Health Care for the Homeless Council
August 22, 2014 | 1-2 p.m. ET

Medical respite care is a critical component in the continuum of health care for people experiencing homelessness. In addition to providing short term clinical oversight for individuals recuperating from an acute illness or injury, these programs facilitate care transitions from hospitals to a primary care provider and when possible to a home. While medical respite programs are being established nationally, the concept of medical respite care is new and may not fit comfortably within the confines of local rules regarding licensing, zoning, and funding. Consequently, complications in program development and operations may arise. What’s more, medical respite programs, though established to meet a targeted need, tend to become a stop gap for a range of issues that may not have been planned for during program development.

Please join us as administrators from two recently established medical respite programs describe these issues and other lessons learned during the first year of operations. This webinar will be of interest to administrators and others involved in medical respite program planning.
