The Daily Planet

Daily Planet Health Services (DPHS) provides a full range of health related services to individuals and families experiencing, or at risk of homelessness in the Greater Richmond Area. DPHS operates two full time health clinics, provides primary care at a local community mental health facility, and subcontracts services at a site in North Richmond. Daily Planet Health Services also operates a  Medical Respite program, co-located with its Southside Health Center, and a Safe Haven transitional housing program serving homeless adults experiencing mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or AIDS/HIV.


Services include primary health care, dental care, optometry, psychiatry, integrated mental health and substance abuse services, Medication Assisted Treatment, case management, pharmacy counseling, outreach and health education. Services are provided by physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, dentist, psychiatrists and psychiatric NP, licensed mental health clinicians, licensed and certified SA counselors; pharmacist, case managers, and outreach workers. Cancer Screening, Immunizations, Pharmacy, Trauma, Treatment of Acute Illness, Well Child Check-ups Basic Needs, Behavioral/Mental Health Care Services, Blood Pressure Monitoring, Case Management/Social Services, Chronic Bronchitis/Emphysema, Contraceptives (issued w/counseling), Dental/oral Care, Diabetes Testing/Care, Documenting Disability Services, Domestic Violence services, Electronic Medical Records, Financial counseling, Flu Vaccinations, Health/Nutritional Education, HIV/AIDS screening/education, Housing assistance, Immunizations, Interpretation services, Labs, Medical Respite, Medication Prescribing, Mental Health Counseling, Optometry Services, Outreach, PATH Services, Pharmacy, Physical Exams, Primary Health Care, Referrals for Specialty Care, Services in permanent supportive housing, SOAR services, STD Testing, Street Outreach, Substance Abuse Treatment, TB screening/education, Tobacco cessation, Transportation Services.


Daily Planet Health Services has established linkages with several providers and agencies in the Richmond area. These include Virginia Commonwealth University  Health Systems (VCUHS) and Medical Center; Central Virginia HIV CARE Consortium (CVHCC); Richmond Behavioral Health Authority; Bon Secours Health System; the Richmond Academy of Medicine (RAM) Access Now initiative (a centralized specialty care referral system available to uninsured patients of safety net providers in Greater Richmond); VCU School of Pharmacy (medication reconciliation initiative); The Healing Place (SA residential recovery program); Henrico Area Mental Health and Development Services; Virginia Department of Health; Commonwealth Catholic Charities Homeless Services; and Homeward (regional coordinator of homeless services). DPHS also provides internship and externship placements for medical, dental, nursing, social work and pharmacy students at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia.
