CMS approved Utah’s amendment request for its 1115 Primary Care Network Demonstration waiver on Jan 8, 2025. The State now can provide temporary medical respite care for individuals covered under the adult expansion Medicaid program who are also chronically homeless and/or living in a supportive housing program.
The state plans to contract with two providers to operate the pilot program, where individuals will be eligible for a maximum of 40 days of medical respite care services per year. The demonstration amendment estimated 400-500 individuals will be served per year, costing $12.5 million over the course of waiver period (ending June 30, 2027).
The state has yet to release more specific implementation information for programs or the public.
