Motivational Interviewing for Medical Respite Care

Motivational Interviewing is defined as “a collaborative, goal-oriented style of communication with particular attention to the language of change. It is designed to strengthen personal motivation for and commitment to a specific goal by eliciting and exploring the person’s own reasons for change within an atmosphere of acceptance and compassion.” Motivational Interviewing (MI) can be a helpful tool for medical respite programs to implement client-centered practice and establish trust with the clients of their program. This webinar provides an overview of the “spirit” of MI, along with introductory ways program staff can use MI to engage with their clients within the medical respite setting. Recorded on May 28, 2025.
