Lessons from the Field: Rural Health Care Service Models and Case Studies

In Key Issues in Rural Health Care and Homelessness, we examined the ways that homelessness may look different in rural communities than it does in urban areas in the United States. In this companion piece, we will be taking a closer look at specific care providers and their organizations providing health care services for homeless populations in different parts of the country. These case studies highlight key themes such as the varied faces of homelessness in communities, the importance of recognizing and addressing stigma as foundational to this work, partnerships formation, and the crucial role that non-traditional healthcare settings — such as mobile health, street outreach, and medical respite — play in bridging gaps in care.
