The A Safe Haven Medical Respite/CAARES is a free resource for anyone who has tested COVID-19 positive and is in need of a safe place to reside, isolate, heal and get the help the medical and behavioral healthcare support they may need to get back on track.
The City of Chicago Department of Public Health and A Safe Haven Foundation partnered with Rush University Medical Center to open a COVID-19 medical respite center (also dubbed CARReS) for persons diagnosed COVID-19 positive and living either in an unstable or dense housing situation and in need of a place to safely isolate, heal and prevent the spread of the virus.

Admission Criteria:

Anyone who has tested COVID-19 positive and in need of a safe place to isolate and heal. Individuals must be asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic, 18 or older if without a parent, physically able to take care of themselves. Other exclusions may apply, including no sex offenders, violent offenders or arsonists.
Referrals are accepted via the Chicago Department of Public Health, Hospital Emergency Departments, Healthcare and Medical centers, Shelters and private self-referrals. The staff consists of in person and tele health medical and behavioral healthcare professionals, telehealth services, comfort care and sanitation workers that all work together as a team to ensure that everyone’s health and behavioral healthcare is assessed, monitored and that guests are made as comfortable and in good spirits as possible while in a healthy clean environment, during this difficult time.
