Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program

Member of the Council badgeBoston Health Care for the Homeless Program (BHCHP) provides comprehensive health care services at more than 80 sites throughout Boston, including shelters, motels, soup kitchens, day centers, street outreach, detoxification units, transitional programs, and clinics on the campuses of three major teaching hospitals.


BHCHP provides primary and episodic care at more than 80 sites in greater Boston. These sites include hospitals, CHCs, and adult, family and domestic violence shelters, as well as the streets of Boston. In addition, BHCHP provides dental and behavioral health care. BHCHP also operates the Barbara McInnis House, a 104-bed medical respite program. 24 hour emergency on-call, Asthma treatment, Basic Needs, Behavioral/Mental Health Care Services, Blood Pressure Monitoring, Cancer Screening, Case Management/Social Services, Child Development Services, Chronic Bronchitis/Emphysema, Contraceptives (issued w/counseling), Dental/oral Care, Diabetes Testing/Care, Documenting Disability Services, Domestic Violence services, Electronic Medical Records, Family Planning, Flu Vaccinations, Health/Nutritional Education, HIV/AIDS screening/education, Immunizations, Interpretation services, Labs, Medical Respite, Medication Prescribing, Medication Dispensing, Mental Health Counseling, Mobile Medical Services, Optometry Services, Outreach, Pediatrics, Pharmacy, Physical Exams, Primary Health Care, Referrals for Specialty Care, Services in permanent supportive housing, Sexual Abuse Support Services, Shelter outreach, Specialty Care, STD Testing, Street Outreach, Substance Abuse Treatment, TB screening/education, Tobacco cessation, Transportation Services, Urgent Care, Well Child Check-ups, X-rays


Linkages include Boston Public Health Commission, Massachusetts Housing and Shelter Alliance, Homes for Families, Massachusetts Coalition for the Homeless, Boston’s Emergency Shelter Commission, Boston Health Net, Massachusetts League of CHC, and the State Departments of Transitional Assistance, Public Health, and Mental Health.
